Inc the East Central Florida Metropolitan Area here is an interrelationship of airports between Orlando International, Orlando-Sanford International, Daytona Beach International and Melbourne International. These airports provide scheduled air carrier service to the East Central Metropolitan Area where enplanements are forecast to increase by 180 percent between 1992 and 2010. Counties included in the Area are Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Flagler, Seminole and Volusia. The General Aviation (GA) community is strongly supported in this area number of airports. These include: Orlando Executive , Kissimmee Municipal, Valkaria, and the three airports sponsored by the Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority, Space Coast Regional, Arthur Dunn Airpark, and Merritt Island (Cocoa) Airports . Other GA airports include Leesburg Regional, Ormond Beach Municipal, DeLand Municipal, New Smyrna Beach Municipal, Valkaria, Umatilla, Bunnell (Flagler County), and Pierson Municipal. The West Orange County Airport Authority has also been created to conduct a feasibility for another GA airport in West Orange County. Aviation flight training is also a major business in this CFASPP Area with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida Institute of Technology, American Flyers, and ComAir, among many others, who provide major flight training services within this Region. The area also plays host to the Valiant Air Command War Bird Air Museum, the Astronauts Hall of Fame, and the Space Camp
The East Central Metropolitan CFASPP Area is noted for its tourist and service-oriented economy. Patrick AFB is the only military flying facility in the Area and maintains an excellent rapport with its neighbors. The National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) space flight activities at Cape Canaveral and the missile operations at Spaceport Florida all add to the airspace congestion of the Area. Continuous coordination between the military, NASA, FAA and all other aviation activities in the Area is essential and effective aviation planning for the future is a must. Of particular interest is the location of the Spaceport Florida Authority in Cape Canaveral. This Authority is responsible for statewide space related economic and academic development including regulatory and operational support to the space transportation industry. A visit to their Web Site will provide additional information on the significant, ongoing efforts of the Authority and the State of Florida to support space-related programs and investment in the State.
The East Central Metropolitan Area CFASPP Steering Committee is a vital component of the intermodal planning efforts throughout the State of Florida. They are also actively supported by the MPO Advisory Committee, the Brevard County, Metroplan Orlando, and Volusia County , Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Florida Department of Transportation District FIVE. The Committee's continuing review of the Florida Aviation System Plan and the forthcoming Strategic Planning component will be a critical link in the ability of the State of Florida and the Region to plan appropriate for future visitor, business, and population growth.
Available for review and download are meeting minutes and Committee by-laws. Participation by the public and interested individuals and organizations is encouraged.
