Like the East Central Area, the West Central Florida Metropolitan Area only encompasses a small number of counties. Tampa International and St. Petersburg/Clearwater International provide commercial service for Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties. General Aviation (GA) airports include: Peter O. Knight, Plant City, and Tampa Executive which are operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority; Albert Whitted, Brooksville (Hernando County), Clearwater Air Park; and Zephyrhills Municipal Airports.

MacDill AFB is located in Tampa, and presently serves as the host for the 6th Air Refueling Wing, a KC-135R tanker Wing, which moved to MacDill in October 1996. The U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command also reside on MacDill AFB. Additionally, the U.S. Cost Guard Station located on St. Petersburg-Clearwater International is very active with 7 HC-130 fixed wing and 12 HH 60 helicopters. Their operations have played a significant role in the Area.

The West Central Metropolitan Area is one of the fastest growing areas of the State. The West Central CFASPP Steering Committee is a vital component of the intermodal planning efforts throughout the State of Florida. They are also actively supported by the Florida MPO Advisory Council; the Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, Pasco County, and Springhill/Hernando County Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs); the Withlacoochee and Tampa Bay Regional Planning Councils (RPC); and the Florida Department of Transportation District SEVEN. The Committee's continuing review of the Florida Aviation System Plan and the forthcoming Strategic Planning component will be a critical link in the ability of the State of Florida and the Region to plan appropriate for future visitor, business, and population growth.

Available for review and download are meeting minutes and Committee by-laws. Participation by the public and interested individuals and organizations is encouraged.
