Project Description
The Airport Compatible Land Use Study was undertaken by the Florida Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Community Affairs, and the Florida Airports Council. A Working Group was established that was comprised of some 29 professionals representing state and local government agencies, airport operators, military installations, and public and private associations having direct interests in land development in the vicinity of airports. A Florida Compatible Land Use Guidebook has been developed in March 2010, and updated in August 2010, based on the recommendations of the stakeholder working group. Series of educational and outreach efforts have been conducted to educate and disseminate the guidebook to interested parties.
Current Status (as of Monday, February 13, 2012)

In March of 2010, the Aviation Office completed the process of putting together a new Florida Airport Compatible Land Use Guidebook, with a subsequent update in August 2010. A number of educational outreach efforts have been conducted between May 2010 and November 2011, such as conference presentations, workshops, and 8 webinars, with the intent of training interested potential guidebook users. Feedback received at those presentations has been very positive and contained constructive comments and suggestions, which will be addressed as a part of the next guidebook revision. Summary of outreach activities, as well as a digest of comments and suggestions will be included in the upcoming summary report brochure. Phase IV outreach to elected officials and real estate urban development professionals was completed on November 30, 2011. The effort reached about 500 professionals from over 200 organizations. Next step will be the identification of potential changes to Ch. 333, FS and revisions of the guidebook with a shifted focus on real estate development solutions to achieve compatibility with aviation facilities.
